Over 50% of individuals over the age of 65 have a musculoskeletal disorder with a high potential for disability. Prosthetic implantation, especially for knee and hip disorders, represents a valid therapeutic option, improving patients’ quality of life by restoring joint function and reducing or eliminating pain. The total number of arthroplasty procedures performed in Italy is approximately 160,000 annually and is constantly increasing, representing an important factor in terms of patient safety and having a significant impact on healthcare costs (over 95% of hospitalizations for joint replacement are covered by the National Health Service). The following short- and long-term outcome indicators are calculated in the PNE: – Readmissions at 30 days after hip replacement surgery; – Revision after two years after hip replacement surgery; – 30-day readmissions after knee replacement surgery; – Two-year review after knee replacement surgery; – 30-day readmissions after shoulder replacement surgery. Readmissions 30 days after hospital discharge after knee replacement surgery can assess the quality of short-term care, while reviews 2 years after knee replacement surgery assess the medium- to long-term post-surgery progress.
